NEWBORN SESSIONS

A lifestyle approach

What do you want to remember about your baby’s first days of life?

Your image collection will document not only what your baby looks like, but also how he or she is loved within the context of your home and family. You (and the baby’s siblings, if there are any) will be featured too, as you hold, cuddle, and bond with your new baby. In the story of welcoming a little one, there’s also a subplot–we’ll document the sweet transition that happens intuitively as you and your partner become parents. Looking for maternity session info? Session Features

In-home sessions

You’ll feel relaxed in your own space and won’t have to worry about packing the diaper bag and figuring out that stroller. And because this is where your memories are made, your images will feel honest and real.

No props

Unless you count your own loving arms. I’ll often use blankets that you already have to keep your baby cozy, but I like to keep my compositions simple and organic–just how your baby is.

Relaxed pace

Over the course of about 2 hours, we follow your baby’s lead and take breaks for feeding, changing and soothing as needed. If I’m not shooting these activities, I’ll shoot scenes with siblings or the nursery.

Natural posing

Because you want you want to look good, but not staged. No worries. How you intuitively hold and soothe your baby looks amazing through my lens, and I’ll give you just the right amount of direction when you need it.

Easy & low-key

Because you don’t need any stress right now. I’ll bring my best baby-soothing secrets for you and knock-knock jokes for your toddler. Through it all, you and I can talk strollers and sleep training because I’m a mom too. I get it.

Digital Files included

About 3 weeks after your session you’ll get your high-resolution images delivered digitally in a web gallery so you can swipe through them during those late-night feedings. You’ll have the flexibility to post, print, and archive all your images. You can also order professional prints directly from your gallery.

“Such a positive experience! We worked with Jen on both our maternity and newborn photos and had a wonderful experience. She is flexible (our daughter arrived two weeks early and she made accommodations to change our original date for photos!), patient (she captured many beautiful images of our large, energetic dog and with our family), creative (our photos were a combination from the images we discussed and a few other suggestions she made based on our home, backyard, style, etc), FUN (she helped to make us feel comfortable and in turn our photos look natural, not staged) and shared great tips with us about our newborn. Being a mom of 4 herself, she has lots of fun stories and understands what new moms are going through! Thanks to Jen, we have precious memories to keep for a lifetime of our new family!”

Newborn FAQ's

When should I book my newborn session? As early as possible; I reserve your session by putting your due date on my calendar. Once you baby arrives we’ll schedule a date, usually within 2 weeks of birth. What if my baby is already here? I’ll do my best to fit you in! My baby is already 3 months old–is it too late for a newborn session? It’s never too late to photograph your baby! I’ll still approach it the same way, but older babies are chubbier and more alert than newborns. Your set of images will just be a little more playful. My parents are visiting the new baby. Can they be in some of the pictures? Of course! I live in a small apartment, with no nursery. Can we still shoot at my home? I shoot with natural light, so as long as you have some windows, we should be fine. My baby has acne all over his face! Can you photoshop it? All your retouching dreams can come true for $5/image.
